Meditation-Story
So many ideas surround this ancient practice of being totally aware and undistracted. What do you think of when you hear the word "meditation"?
In Tibetan, there is a saying that goes: Meditation is not. Getting used to it, it is. Getting used to what? Getting used to a state of mind free of distractions. Meditation is a tool. It's a skillful means taught by Buddha out of great compassion to liberate all beings from suffering.
we suffer because we are completely distracted from reality by our conceptual mind, thoughts, and emotions. With a lack of self-awareness, we don't know who we are, and we experience anxiety, anger, jealousy, mistrust, and low self-esteem. We are never completely satisfied. In every moment of our lives, whether we are happy, delighted, or just OK, there is always this underlying nervousness of either `something is missing` or `something is about to change.` We are either looking for something or worrying about losing what we already have.
By resting our minds in the present moment, we can get to know and work with our minds. This process has the power to gradually transform the confusion and suffering that characterize our current situation into profound insight, enduring peace, and lasting contentment. This potential for transformation is a beacon of hope, showing us that there is a bigger perspective no matter where we are and in what state our minds are. There is always room for growth and improvement.
